Located
where the Aegean
and Mediterranean Seas meet,
Marmaris boasts the the worlds
largest natural harbour, surrounded
by pine-clad hills.
Situated in southwest Turkey, in the province of
Mugla, Marmaris is one of Turkey's biggest
tourist resorts. To the north lies the Gulf
of Gokova, to the south the Mediterranean.
On the west Datca
peninsula and to the
east Koycegiz lake.
The hills running
in to the sea and the beautiful bays make
Marmaris very special.
Because
of its typical
Mediterranean Climate,
150-200 days of the year, you can enjoy the
sun and the sea.
The temperature is 20-25 C in
May and October, 25-35 C in
June, July and August.
The
sea temperature never drops below 15
C.
However between the months of
November and April there is
abundant rainfall, with a a high of
870 mm in January.

which serves the western Mediterranean

Avenue
lies in the heart of the town, cuts Marmaris in half.
The maze of
narrow streets east of it is home to most things
of interest, though nothing is left of the
sleepy
fishing village that Marmaris was
about seven or ten
years ago.
Iskele Avenue is the centrum,
where the welcoming statue of
Ataturk is next to the helpful

opposite to the Avenue. Bazaar
is the place of Town-Nightlife -
Shopping. Kaleiçi district
offers the warren of streets at
the base of a tiny castle,
making this area a pleasant
wander.
The Castle museum

archeology and ethnography collection.
The old part
of town is a residential area around
the castle.
The old houses, all under
preservation order
and the narrow streets
leading to them are a delight to explore: there
are some classic examples of Mugla architecture
on display.
Marmaris later began to spread
out around the castle hill and
along the shore, but the growth of
tourism resulted in housing being
prohibited along the shoreline and
planning permission granted only to
tourist hotels.

bare-boats; vessels, gulets, Daily

Netsel
Marina features
a complex; includes
a large shopping
centre a yacht club, restaurants,

specialists.
Beldibi
and Armutalan districts
are
away from the waterfront (a mile or
two), but still offer a
variety of good numerous
hotels and apartments; mostly
with swimming pool and joyful
facilities. Alsohere is an impressive
choice of hundreds of
restaurants where you can find
comprehensive and extensive
selections of
Turkish and International
cuisines
for
every individual taste; since they
also offer entertainment when the
dinner is over so you can join the party
there
as well as in the whole town.
The Theater in Armutalan
offers Live Performances and
Concerts during the summer. To
the north of the centre where the
main Avenue leaves the promonade
to the left, Uzunyalý district
lines through till Siteler,
with the most cheerful night-clubs,
bars and discotheques open
mostly till dawn, so you can
end your day in the swimming-beach
party when the sun is rising up.
Local
Transportation is provided by
the color coded
services (mini-buses) local
DOLMUSH, runs inter-city and
nearby destinations, between
Icmeler, Armutalan, Beldibi, Datca, Turunc
and Marmaris. All you need to
do is holding your arm as you see
DOLMUSH is approaching. The fare
for the journey is paid to the
driver. As you see its getting
close to your location just shout "STOP!
Please!..." and the driver will.
GREEN
is for intra town,
ORANGE
is for Icmeler,
BLUE
is for Armutalan. There also
Yellow-Bonded taxi stations
strewed.
On
the Saman Dock next to the
Iskele Square, taxi boats for
Icmeler and Turunc awaits for
those who likes to enjoy a breezing
short journey.
A
new
bus station has opened about
1.6km
(a mile) south of the
town centre.
Many of the bus companies also offer
a free transfer minibus to their
offices in the centre.
